History

Back when electric typewriters were cutting edge technology, Morris Cox had a few for sale. People would drop by the family home and check out the newfangled office machines lined up on the rec room ping pong table.

Brant Office Supply opened a storefront on Charlotte Street near Stewart and then expanded to a bigger store closer to George St. In 1976, the company joined forces with independent dealers across Canada and formed the Basics network. With the buying power of 65 independent stores, this network is the second largest distributor of office supplies in Canada – and offers service and value second to none.

Fifty years and one more location later Jeff, David and Susan lead the operation of Brant Basics’ 25,000 square foot head office at 296 George St. North in downtown Peterborough, and continue the family tradition as a cutting-edge supplier for all your office needs.

Philanthropy is key in building a strong community. Giving back is an integral part of our business. We support more than 20 local organizations through our Charitable Organization Support Program, and are proud to give back to our community through fundraising, sponsorships and in-kind donations.
